The NewZealand All Blacks :

The NZ All Blacks won the first ever Rugby World Cup in 1987.

They beat France in the final 29-9 at Eden Park in Auckland , to win the William Webb Ellis Trophy.

They have beaten every other nation more times than any one nation has beaten them!

The NZRFU was formed in 1893 when NewZealand first played an Australian provincial team called Cumberland Country winning 8-0. Their first ever loss was to New South Wales in Australia losing 3-25. It wasn’t until 1903 that they had their first international test, it was against Australia , NZ won 22-3. It wasn’t until 1910 in the 2nd test of a 3 match series that Australia would record their first win over NZ 0-11. NZ however won the series 2-1 , winning the 1st test 6-0 and 3rd test 28-13. First drawn match was in 1905 with New South Wales , 8-8! First Test draw was in 1907 with Australia 5-5 in the 3rd test in Australia. NZ won the first two tests 26-6 and 14-5.

The first country however to beat NZ was Wales in 1906 .They won 0-3 and it was also the first test between the two nations but since then Wales have only beaten NZ two other times with NZ winning 17 of the 20 tests played between the two nations!

After NZ won the first Rugby World Cup They went from 1987 to 1990 without being defeated making them worthy holders of the title of World Champions, something no other nation has repeated!! Below is the amazing sequence of undefeated matches:

THE HAKA

The HAKA is the generic term for any Maori War Dance.

The New Zealand All Blacks perform this before every game they play; it has become a Rugby tradition.

The Haka is also used by the NZ Rugby Sevens team, The NZ Maori Rugby team, The NZ Rugby League team and recently when the All Blacks played Welsh Munster provincial team, boasting some former All Blacks now playing in the team, they performed the Haka at the All Black teams’ Haka.

The haka is a type of dance rather than a particular routine – different versions of the haka reflect the different events or issues of a particular time or place.

The Haka has caused controversy among some teams and officials calling for it to be banned!

The haka traditionally performed by the All Blacks, ‘Ka Mate’, is not unique to the All Blacks and is performed with the consent of the Ngati Toa iwi, or tribe. It is said to have been written by the famous chief Te Rauparaha.

Ka mate

ā ka mate, ka mate

ka ora, ka ora

ka mate, ka mate

ka ora, ka ora

tēnei te tangata pūhuruhuru

nāna i tiki mai whakawhiti te rā

ā hupane

ā kaupane

ā hupane, kaupane

whiti te rā

hi!

Translation

It is death! It is death!

It is life! It is life!

It is death! It is death!

It is life! It is life!

This is the man above me

Who enabled me to live

As I climb up

Step by step

Towards sunlight

hi!

In August 2005, before the Philips Tri Nations Test match against South Africa at Carisbrook, the All Blacks performed for the first time ‘Kapa O Pango’, a new haka for and about the All Blacks.

Kapa O Pango was written for the team by Derek Lardelli, an expert in tikanga Maori (Maori culture and customs) of the Ngati Porou iwi. Its words and actions celebrate the land of New Zealand, the silver fern and its warriors in black. The name might be translated simply as ‘team in black’.

Rather than replace the traditional haka, Ka Mate, Kapa O Pango sits alongside it as a new addition to the All Blacks’ tradition. Kapa O Pango is performed from time to time at the team’s discretion.

Kapa O Pango

kia whakata hoki au i ahau

hi aue, hi

ko aotearoa e ngunguru nei

au! au! aue ha!

ko Kapa O Pango e ngunguru nei

au! au! aue ha!

i ahaha

ka tu te ihiihi

ka tu te wanawana

ki runga i te rangi e tu iho nei, tu iho nei

ponga ra!

Kapa O Pango!

ponga ra!

Kapa O Pango!

aue hi!

Translation

Let me go back to my first gasp of breath

Let my life force return to the earth

It is New Zealand that thunders now

And it is my time!

It is my moment!

The passion ignites!

This defines us as the All Blacks

And it is my time!

It is my moment!

The anticipation explodes!

Feel the power

Our dominance rises

Our supremacy emerges

To be placed on high

Silver fern!

All Blacks!

Silver fern!

All Blacks!

aue hi!

The Air New Zealand Cup in the inaugural 2006 season was played by 14 teams over 13 weeks from 28 July until the grand final on the 21 October. The inaugural format saw the season split into two rounds. In round one teams split into two pools and played everybody in their pool as well as a bye week. In round two the top three teams from each pool went into the top six, which faced every team they did not play in round one Every other team was split into either Repechage A and Repechage B, and the winners of each repechage filled the two remaining spots for the quarterfinals with the top six. The quarterfinals were followed by semifinals and a grand final. The new competition saw the introduction of four teams elevated from Division two of the 2005 NPC

The 2010 ITM Cup was the 34th provincial rugby union competition, the fifth since the competition reconstruction in 2006 and the first under the new sponsor of ITM, involving the top 14 provincial unions. It ran for 15 weeks, with 13 used for a round robin and 2 for the finals from 29 July to 5 November. Changes in 2011 see the 14 teams split into two divisions, with the top seven playing in the Premiership, the rest in the Championship. The two divisions play each other, though their ten-game round-robin season sees each team playing only three games per year against teams in the 'other' division.
